BRIEF SUMMARY
This method is based on the structured motivational interview where the interviewer is active and identifies what person is motivated, and where lies the reason for the aggression or agitation, MI has 5 basic principles: express empathy, avoid the argument, support self-efficacy, roll with resistance, and develop discrepancy. MI is talk therapy, it’s not easy to do consistently but with practice, and when done well its amazing to watch. It requires developing a positive frame of mind and not allowing yourself to get caught up in negativity. If you have good listening and reflecting skills you are half way there, the rest is practice and awareness.
